PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA APPOINTS NEW ZAF DEPUTY COMMANDER, HONOURS OUTGOING MAJ GEN KALALUKA

President Hakainde Hichilema, exercising the powers vested in him under Article 91(1) of the Constitution, has relieved Maj Gen Arthur Kalaluka of his duties as Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Deputy Commander and Chief of Air Staff (COAIRS), redeploying him to the diplomatic service. The President thanked Maj Gen Kalaluka (Rtd) for his outstanding service and wished him success in his new role.
In line with Articles 91(1) and 92(2)(e) of the Constitution, President Hichilema, as Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Force, has appointed Brig Gen Henry Chiwaya as the new ZAF Deputy Commander and COAIRS, promoting him to the rank of Major General. The Head of State congratulated Maj Gen Chiwaya, urging him to serve with loyalty, discipline, and steadfast dedication to the Constitution and the people of Zambia.
Welcoming the new Deputy Commander, ZAF Commander Lt Gen Oscar Msitu Nyoni praised Maj Gen Chiwaya’s exceptional career spanning over three decades, noting his vast experience in operational, strategic, and administrative command roles. He said the appointment reflects the President’s confidence in his abilities and leadership.
Lt Gen Nyoni emphasized that Maj Gen Chiwaya will play a critical role in enhancing operational readiness, strengthening discipline, and fostering professional development among officers and airmen. He also commended outgoing Maj Gen Kalaluka for his significant contributions to the Air Force, acknowledging his role in ZAF’s continued success.
In his remarks, Maj Gen Chiwaya expressed gratitude to President Hichilema for the trust placed in him, attributing his appointment to God’s grace. He pledged his full support to the ZAF Commander in advancing the President’s vision and directives for the Air Force.
