MINISTRY OF YOUTH, SPORT, AND ARTS ZAMBIA TAKES LEAD IN STRENGTHENING GLOBAL ANTI-DOPING STRATEGIES UNDER UNESCO FRAMEWORK

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts, Mr. Kangwa Chileshe, today chaired a high-level virtual meeting as the Chairperson of the UNESCO Convention Against Doping in Sport Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG).
This pivotal meeting brought together global anti-doping experts to refine recommendations ahead of upcoming international consultations.
The deliberations centered on improving the effectiveness, governance, and long-term impact of the UNESCO Convention Against Doping in Sport.
The proposed recommendations aim to strengthen global frameworks and ensure sustainable efforts to combat doping in sports.
The outcomes of the OEWG’s discussions will play a critical role in guiding member states during the forthcoming consultations, setting a robust foundation for enhanced anti-doping measures worldwide.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Chileshe emphasized Zambia’s unwavering commitment to promoting a doping-free sporting environment.
He highlighted the nation’s leadership role in advancing fair play, fostering international collaboration and safeguarding the integrity of athletes globally.
The meeting featured the participation of prominent figures, including:
Mr. Marceline Dally, Executive Secretary of the UNESCO Convention Against Doping in Sport (France),
Mr. Bram Van Houten, Rapporteur and representative of the Netherlands,
Mr. John C. Zulu, Director of Sport (Zambia),
Mr. Raphael Mulenga, Director of National Heroes Stadium and Africa Representative on the UNESCO Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport Approval Committee, and
Mr. Chilongo Kandai, Principal Sport Development Officer-Anti-Doping (Zambia).
This initiative reinforces Zambia’s position as a key player in the global fight against doping in sports and highlights its dedication to fostering ethical practices in the sporting community.
