Bauleni Compound has received a major sanitation boost as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Member of Parliament for Lusaka Central, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, officially launched the Bauleni Garbage Clearance Project—a critical waste management initiative financed under the 2025 Lusaka Central Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Addressing residents at Bauleni Market during the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Haimbe called on the community to ditch the dangerous habit of dumping waste in open areas—commonly referred to as “pa Chishala”—and instead utilize licensed waste management providers.
The Minister emphasized the importance of protecting the cleaned-up areas, urging residents to take full responsibility in preserving their environment.
Hon. Haimbe welcomed Zoomlion as a newly engaged solid waste management provider for Bauleni and encouraged residents to subscribe to its services. His remarks underscored the government’s commitment to long-term sanitation improvements backed by strategic partnerships.
A total of K4,970,000 from the CDF has been disbursed towards the removal of long-standing waste at Bauleni Market and near the ZNBC transformer. The clean-up is being undertaken by the Lusaka Integrated Solid Waste Management Company (LISWMC), with the operation set to be completed in ten days.
The event was graced by several key stakeholders, including:
- Mr. Kosamu Tembo, Area Councillor for Kabulonga
- Mr. Clement Milonga, Lubwa Ward Councillor
- Father Kangombe, CDF Chairperson
- Mr. Imuwana Mwanamwalye, CEO of LISWMC
- Mr. Keneth Kangombe, Country Representative for Zoomlion
This intervention not only showcases the government’s proactive approach through CDF initiatives but also highlights the power of community action and responsible citizenship in creating a cleaner, healthier Lusaka.
