FAITH MUSONDA JAILED FOR STORMING COMMUNITY HOUSE

in a dramatic turn of events, prominent Zambian journalist and communications expert Faith Musonda has been sentenced to one month in prison and fined K24 for conduct likely to breach the peace following a bizarre incident at Community House, the private residence of President Hakainde Hichilema in New Kasama.

The case, which has attracted national attention, stems from an incident that occurred in the early hours of July 1, 2025. According to police, the 41-year-old former news anchor drove to Community House at around 01:00 hours, where she allegedly began idling in a suspicious and confrontational manner. Her actions were deemed disorderly and likely to provoke a breach of the peace, prompting her arrest the following day.

Musonda appeared before the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court, where she was charged under the Penal Code for disorderly conduct—a minor offence that nevertheless carries serious legal consequences. Dressed in a white robe and wearing a surgical mask, Musonda remained composed throughout the proceedings. She initially pleaded not guilty, and was granted K100,000 bail while the case progressed.

During the trial, the court heard that her presence at Community House was not only unwarranted but also posed a potential security concern, given the location’s high-profile nature. Police officers testified that her behavior was erratic and potentially threatening.

On July 20, 2025, Magistrate Ireen Wishimanga found Musonda guilty and imposed the statutory sentence—one month imprisonment with an option of a K24 fine. While the fine may appear symbolic, the sentence has reignited debate over political tension, press freedom, and personal conduct among public figures in Zambia.

Faith Musonda is no stranger to controversy. In 2021, she was at the center of a major corruption scandal involving the recovery of K65 million and $57,900 in cash allegedly found in her possession, although she was never convicted in that matter after cooperating with law enforcement.

This latest incident adds another layer to her complicated public image—once celebrated as a rising media voice, now embroiled in yet another legal battle. As she begins serving her sentence, questions remain about her motivations and whether deeper political or personal grievances led to her unannounced appearance at the president’s residence.

Authorities have remained tight-lipped about any further investigations or threats she may have posed, while Musonda herself has yet to issue an official statement following her sentencing.

The case continues to generate conversation online and in political circles, as the nation watches to see what’s next for one of Zambia’s most controversial media personalities.
