Mpika, Muchinga Province, Zambia.
The Government has commissioned a modern Macro-Burn Incinerator at Mpika Urban Clinic, a development set to significantly enhance biomedical waste management and infection control in Muchinga Province.
Constructed at a cost of K2.5 million, the state-of-the-art facility will enable the safe disposal of infectious and chemical waste in line with national and international health and environmental standards.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Muchinga Province Minister Hon. Njavwa Simutowe MP described the project as a critical investment in public health security and environmental protection.
“This modern facility will not only safeguard the health of our people but also protect our environment while advancing our goals of sustainable development,” Hon. Simutowe stated.
The project was made possible through a public-private partnership involving the Ministry of Health, First National Bank (FNB) Zambia, and Right to Care Zambia. Hon. Simutowe commended the private sector’s role in supporting government efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery.
Muchinga Provincial Health Director, Dr. David Silweya, noted that the facility will improve infection control, reduce environmental pollution and ensure the safety of healthcare workers handling biomedical waste.
Right to Care Zambia Country Director, Dr. Ben Chirwa, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting Zambia’s health systems, emphasising that the incinerator will enhance safe waste disposal across the region’s health facilities.
This milestone demonstrates the New Dawn Government’s continued commitment to investing in sustainable healthcare infrastructure while ensuring environmental stewardship for a healthier, cleaner Muchinga Province.
