In a significant stride toward strengthening Zambia’s healthcare system, the Government of Zambia through the Civil Service Commission announced the recruitment of 4,140 health workers under the Ministry of Health for 2024.
This initiative underscores the New Dawn government’s unwavering dedication to enhancing service delivery and creating employment opportunities in the health sector.
Speaking at the announcement today Friday, 24th January 2025, the Civil Service Commission Chairperson Dr. Beyani highlighted the New Dawn Government’s sustained efforts to address human resource needs in healthcare.
“This recruitment demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing service delivery through strategic human resource investment,” Dr. Beyani stated.
The 2024 recruitment follows the successful engagement of 11,276 health workers in 2022 and 3,250 workers in 2023. This year’s milestone raises the total to 4,140, with positions filled across all ten provinces.
A breakdown of the recruitment process shows that 3,494 health workers were selected through a district-led process, while 646 professional cholera volunteers were integrated into the public health service, fulfilling the government’s promise to recognize their service.
The allocation of positions is designed to ensure equitable coverage across the country:
Copperbelt Province: 529 positions
Southern Province: 493 positions
Eastern Province: 491 positions
Luapula Province: 430 positions
Northern Province: 420 positions
North Western Province: 400 positions
Western Province: 415 positions
Central Province: 337 positions
Lusaka Province: 339 positions
Muchinga Province: 286 positions
The recruits span various professions critical to the healthcare system, including:
Registered Nurses: 957
Registered Midwives: 595
Clinical Officers: 521
Environmental Health Technologists: 398
Junior Resident Medical Officers: 391
Medical Laboratory Technologists: 179
Public Health Nurses: 126
And numerous other specialized roles.
This diversity ensures that Zambia’s healthcare system is well-equipped to address a wide range of public health needs.
The names of successful candidates will be published in the Zambia Daily Mail and Times of Zambia on Monday, 27th January 2025.
Appointment letters will be available for collection from Wednesday, 29th January 2025, at provincial health offices, starting at 09:00 HRS.
Successful candidates are required to present their National Registration Cards (NRCs) and original professional qualifications for verification.
Dr. Beyani urged successful candidates to serve with professionalism and dedication, emphasizing their critical role in improving healthcare delivery.
To those who were not selected, she offered reassurance: “Do not lose hope. The government remains committed to annual recruitment drives. Your opportunity may come next year as we plan to recruit more health workers in 2025.”
Dr. Beyani also expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the recruitment process for their diligence and commitment.
He encouraged communities to support the newly recruited health workers as they settled into their roles, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.
The recruitment of 4,140 health workers not only addresses immediate service delivery needs but also paves the way for long-term improvements in public health.
