Solwezi, Zambia.
In a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotic-related crimes, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in Zambia has arrested two individuals for operating an illegal cannabis farm in Solwezi District, North-Western Province.
The operation, conducted in Mushindamo District’s 15 Miles area, led to the seizure of fresh cannabis plants weighing a staggering 523 kilograms.
The suspects, identified as Robert Wisamba (47), a local peasant farmer, and James Munongo (19), have been charged under Section 19 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act No. 35 of 2021. Both individuals are now in lawful custody, awaiting judicial proceedings.
This decisive action underscores the DEC’s commitment to curbing illegal drug activities.
The Commission has called for heightened public vigilance, urging citizens to report suspicious activities to support their ongoing efforts in combating drug-related crimes.
“We thank the public for their support and encourage continued collaboration to prevent and detect such offenses,” said DEC spokesperson Allan Tamba in an official statement.
As the judicial process unfolds, this incident serves as a reminder of the critical role law enforcement and community partnerships play in fostering a drug-free Zambia.
