The Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Command has expressed deep regret over the conduct of its personnel captured in a video widely circulated on social media, showing a ZAF vehicle driving past a serious road traffic incident without offering assistance.

The incident, which occurred on 13th May 2025 along Great East Road near the Arcades Shopping Mall, involved an unidentified man who was critically injured in what has been described as a grave road traffic accident.

In an official statement, the ZAF Commander condemned the behavior exhibited by the personnel, stating that it does not reflect the values of the Zambia Air Force nor those of the nation. “What transpired is deeply regrettable and inconsistent with the values of humanity, compassion and service that we, as the Zambia Air Force, stand for,” the Commander stated.

The statement further emphasized that members of the military have sworn an oath to protect and serve not only during times of war but in all situations where human life is at risk. “The behavior displayed in the video is a betrayal of that solemn duty and tarnishes the image and reputation of the Zambia Air Force,” the Commander added.

ZAF has since launched an internal inquiry to fully investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure that appropriate disciplinary action is taken against the personnel involved.

“This unfortunate occurrence must never happen again. We send our heartfelt sympathies to the victim and his family during this difficult time. No human life should ever be treated with disregard. The dignity and sanctity of life must always be upheld,” the statement concluded.

The Zambia Air Force also assured the public that it remains committed to the highest standards of professionalism and service, and is taking this matter with the utmost seriousness to restore public trust.
