Five exceptional Zambian university students have departed for China to participate in Huawei’s flagship Seeds for the Future program, marking another milestone in Zambia’s journey toward building a digitally empowered future.
The one-week program will expose the students to advanced technology training in 5G, Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Computing, coupled with cultural immersion designed to strengthen their leadership and technical expertise. Launched globally in 2008 and introduced to Zambia in 2015, the Seeds for the Future program has already benefitted over 100 Zambian students, aligning with Huawei’s commitment to nurturing local ICT talent and bridging the digital divide.
During a courtesy visit at the Ministry of Technology and Science, Permanent Secretary Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu praised Huawei’s consistent investment in Zambia’s human capital, noting that such initiatives are vital for optimizing key sectors including agriculture and mining.
“We thank Huawei for empowering our youth through innovation and technology. I urge the students to learn as much as possible and return with innovative solutions that will contribute to Zambia’s development,” said Dr. Habeenzu.
The students expressed gratitude for the rare opportunity, vowing to represent Zambia with excellence and to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s digital transformation upon their return.
Huawei Public Relations Manager Louis Mwape emphasized that digital transformation remains central to Zambia’s goal of achieving middle-income prosperity by 2030, stressing the importance of equipping young people with modern ICT skills to drive that vision forward.
“Huawei remains committed to supporting Zambia’s vision by ensuring students receive world-class ICT training through programs like Seeds for the Future,” Mr. Mwape stated.
The partnership between Huawei and the Government of Zambia underscores a shared commitment to cultivating the next generation of ICT leaders who will propel Zambia toward a connected, inclusive and innovative future.
