The Zambia Defence Force today joined 140 other military organizations worldwide in commemorating the International Day of Military Sports, reinforcing the global message of unity and camaraderie through sport.

This annual event marks the anniversary of the establishment of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), the second-largest multi-sport organization globally after the Olympics.

CISM fosters values such as solidarity, friendship, respect, inclusion, equality, integrity, and determination within the armed forces community.

Under the theme “Friendship Through Sport,” the Zambia Defence Force organized a series of inter-service competitions across its three branches.

The Zambia Army hosted netball and basketball at Army Headquarters, the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) conducted tug-of-war and aerobics at ZAF Headquarters, while the Zambia National Service (ZNS) arranged handball and volleyball matches at its Chamba Valley facilities.

Officers and soldiers from all three branches participated in spirited contests aimed at promoting teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness.

Speaking on behalf of ZAF Commander Lieutenant General Oscar Nyoni, Vice Chief of Training Colonel Chiko Mukelebai highlighted the significance of the CISM Day in fostering camaraderie and professional exchange among military personnel.

Lt Gen Nyoni emphasized that the Defence Force plays a critical role in Zambia’s sports development, contributing elite athletes to national teams.

“The Defence Force provides quality and professional sportsmen and women to national teams. It is important that we continue to engage in sport not only to support national teams but also to maintain a physically fit fighting force,” he stated.

He further encouraged participants to uphold the principles of good sportsmanship and fair play, noting that
