Strategic Healthcare Partnership Launched to Enhance Service Delivery in Rural Zambia
The Lusaka Provincial Administration has announced a strategic partnership with Anchor Health Partners, an international NGO, aimed at strengthening Zambia’s healthcare system with a particular focus on maternal and child health in underserved areas.
This initiative will pilot in Rufunsa District, serving as a model for broader national rollout. Through targeted investments in medical equipment, capacity building, and logistical sustainability, the partnership intends to improve health outcomes and bridge critical service delivery gaps.
During a courtesy visit to Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary, Engineer Joe Kalusa, Anchor Health Partners’ Executive Director Rees Reiner unveiled plans for phased implementation of a comprehensive community-based healthcare support program.
“It is always encouraging to see partners who share a vision for healthier, more empowered communities,” said Eng. Kalusa. “Anchor Health’s commitment aligns with our development goals, particularly in addressing maternal and child health needs through innovative, community-rooted solutions.”
The intervention arrives at a time when the New Dawn administration is prioritizing healthcare equity, investing heavily through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to construct and upgrade health facilities in rural districts.
Anchor Health Partners’ approach includes:
- Equipping health centers with essential tools and supplies
- Providing training and ongoing technical support to healthcare workers
- Addressing critical logistics and sustainability to ensure continuity of care
Mr. Reiner noted that his organization’s model thrives on multi-partner collaboration, leveraging additional resources to support Zambia’s Ministry of Health objectives.
“Our aim is to build resilient referral networks starting with 10 centers of excellence across all provinces,” Reiner said. “Rufunsa will serve as the entry point, positioning Lusaka Province to lead national replication.”
The Provincial Administration has pledged full support in facilitating district-level coordination and ensuring alignment with existing government systems. Eng. Kalusa underscored the importance of transparency, accountability, and regular dialogue in delivering measurable results.
“This partnership marks the beginning of what we hope will be a transformative journey in delivering high-impact healthcare to communities that need it most,” Kalusa added.
The collaboration reflects a growing trend toward localized, sustainable healthcare investments driven by public-private alignment, and may serve as a blueprint for other regions aiming to achieve universal health coverage.
