In a significant stride towards enhancing infrastructure and fostering economic growth, the New Dawn government has officially launched the construction of 10.19 kilometers of urban roads in Solwezi District, reaffirming its commitment to delivering development that directly impacts citizens lives.

The North Western Province Minister, Hon. Robert Lihefu, MP, officiated the commissioning ceremony, accompanied by senior government officials, including Hon. Stanford Mulusa, Chief Government Whip and Member of Parliament for Solwezi, Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr. Luckson Mulumbi and other key district and municipal leaders.

The project, fully funded by the central government and awarded to JDCON, will upgrade several critical urban roads to a bituminous standard, complete with drainage systems and pedestrian walkways. The targeted roads include:

  1. Kimasala via Solwezi Day Secondary to Kyawama Roundabout
  2. Messenger Bridge via Kazomba Roundabout to T5 Road
  3. Stadium Road from Mema Junction to Zangamenu Bridge
  4. Faith Road to Stadium Road

This initiative aligns with President Hakainde Hichilema’s broader vision of transforming Zambia’s infrastructure as a catalyst for socio economic development. Speaking at the event, Hon. Lihefu underscored the government’s proactive approach to addressing infrastructure gaps.

“The New Dawn government is not just promising change, we are delivering it. These road works are a testament to our commitment to improving connectivity, enhancing public safety and facilitating access to essential services,” Hon. Lihefu said.

Beyond physical development, the project also presents economic opportunities for local communities. The Minister called on the contractor to prioritize hiring local labor and integrating skills development initiatives supported by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) ensuring that infrastructure growth translates into tangible benefits for residents.

Hon. Lihefu further urged the supervising bodies, including Iliso Consulting, the Solwezi Municipal Council and the Department of Rural Development, to maintain stringent oversight and uphold high standards of workmanship.

As part of its long term development strategy, the government assured citizens that additional road projects within Solwezi and beyond will be implemented, fostering regional development and improving the quality of life for Zambians.

Local residents welcomed the development with gratitude, viewing it as a clear signal that the government is responsive to their needs and is focused on sustainable development.
